Background of the Study
In recent years, universities have faced increasing pressure to improve operational efficiency and decision-making processes. Traditional administrative systems often rely on manual processes, which are time-consuming, error-prone, and inefficient. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into university administrative systems can enhance decision-making by providing data-driven insights and automating routine tasks. AI-based Decision Support Systems (DSS) can help university administrators make informed decisions regarding resource allocation, student management, academic scheduling, and budgeting.
At Bauchi State University, Gadau, Bauchi State, the current administrative processes are primarily manual, leading to delays, inefficiencies, and increased workloads for staff. An AI-based DSS could optimize these processes by automating repetitive tasks, providing real-time analytics, and offering predictive insights to support strategic decision-making. This study will investigate the design, implementation, and effectiveness of an AI-powered Decision Support System in enhancing the administrative processes at the university.
Statement of the Problem
The administrative processes at Bauchi State University, Gadau, are hindered by the inefficiencies of traditional systems that rely on manual data entry and decision-making. These processes often result in delays, inaccuracies, and a lack of real-time insights for administrators. AI-based Decision Support Systems present a potential solution by automating key administrative tasks and providing timely, data-driven decision-making support. However, the effectiveness and feasibility of implementing such systems in the university’s administrative environment are not well understood. This study aims to evaluate the impact of AI-powered DSS on university administration.
Objectives of the Study
1. To design and implement an AI-based Decision Support System for Bauchi State University, Gadau.
2. To assess the effectiveness of the AI-based DSS in improving administrative decision-making processes.
3. To identify the challenges and opportunities of adopting AI-based decision support in university administration.
Research Questions
1. How effective is the AI-based Decision Support System in improving the administrative decision-making process at Bauchi State University?

3. What challenges are faced by administrators in adopting and using the AI-based Decision Support System?
Research Hypotheses
1. The AI-based Decision Support System improves the efficiency of decision-making processes compared to traditional methods.

3. The adoption of the AI-based DSS faces challenges related to staff training, system integration, and data quality.
Significance of the Study
This study will provide Bauchi State University with a framework for adopting AI-based Decision Support Systems to enhance administrative processes. By automating decision-making and improving operational efficiency, the study aims to guide the university toward more effective resource management and improved institutional performance.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the implementation and evaluation of an AI-based Decision Support System at Bauchi State University, Gadau, with a focus on administrative processes. Limitations include potential resistance to adopting AI technology, integration challenges, and the quality of available data.
